Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the AHA PALS class?

Generally speaking, you should plan for a half-day of training. Classes usually last 5-8 hours, depending on break times, exams, and the number of students. If you’re looking for a flexible way to get or renew your PALS certification, you can opt for a 2-hour online blended-learning portion of this class. After completing the online portion, you’ll demonstrate your skills on-site in front of an instructor. You can view our PALS blended-learning classes here.

Do you offer online PALS certification?

If you’re looking to get or renew your PALS certification online, you can opt to take our blended-learning class (part online, part on-site). After you complete the online portion, you’ll need to demonstrate your skills in-person at a nearby AHA-authorized Training Center to receive certification.

Does PALS replace or include BLS?

No. PALS does not cover all the topics taught in a BLS class. BLS teaches CPR for adults, children and infants, as well as choking relief, naloxone administration, and how to use an AED (automated external defibrillator). PALS focuses solely on providing pediatric life support for cardiac, respiratory, and shock emergencies.

How do I get a PALS certification card?

After successfully completing a PALS class, you’ll receive an eCard (via email). An instructor technically has up to 20 days to send your certification, but Vitali guarantees you’ll receive it within one business day.

How long does the PALS renewal take?

Depending on your class size and who you go to for the training, the PALS renewal class takes between 5-8 hours.

How do I replace my PALS card?

Because your certification is an eCard that you would have received via email, you’ll be able to log into your AHA portal to retrieve it. You can refer to this article on what to do if you lost your CPR certification card to learn more.

How much does PALS certification cost?

Please give us a call at 800-991-6511 or view our class registration page for pricing.

How will I receive my certification card?

You can expect your certification to be emailed to you within one business day of successfully completing the class. You can either save or print the card from there.

Is there a PALS practice test?

You can find third-party PALS practice tests online. However, the official PALS pretest that you’re required to take prior to coming to your class serves as a great practice tool and you can retake it as many times as you’d like.

What is PALS?

PALS stands for Pediatric Advanced Life Support. It builds on the fundamentals of high quality BLS and introduces advanced airway management, ECG rhythm interpretation, the Pediatric Assessment Model, and the use of cardiac and respiratory drugs.

What should I bring to my PALS class?

Whether it’s your first or tenth time taking a PALS class, you should plan to complete a pre-test and bring a printout of the results, as well as your student manual. You’ll need a 70% or higher on the pre-test to pass. If you’re renewing your certification, please bring your card with you to class.

Who are PALS certification classes best suited for?

Advanced healthcare providers and medical personnel involved in responding to pediatric emergencies. These personnel may be assigned to emergency medicine, emergency response, or intensive and critical care units. Students may include (but are not limited to) doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other medical staff looking to renew their PALS certification.

Where do I find the PALS pretest?

The PALS pretest is available online. You will either find a link (with passcode) in your PALS student manual, or your instructor will provide this information prior to class. The pretest is required by the AHA before you can take the PALS class.
